Anger over unscrupulous firms exploiting Covid-19 crisis

In times of crisis there are will always be good businesses prepared to help people and others quite content to exploit the situation.

Hence it is disappointing to hear of organisations selling mobile solutions using the coronavirus crisis to their advantage by instructing telemarketers to cold-call customers saying a competing telecoms business has gone into liquidation and they’ve been appointed to take over the base.

Paul Hallam, Co-owner and Operations Director at Salisbury based Berry Telecoms, says he has the evidence to back up the tactic.

“What happens is that a company and its resellers will call any old data they have containing clients out of contract or old clients who have left to try and get their business back. This is telemarketing and we have no issues at all with this, but telling people they are ‘sad to announce that Berry Telecom are going into liquidation’ is beyond the pale.

“They are even saying they are taking over our base and they should sign attached documentation to retain their service. I have had several clients raise this with me directly, so I know for a fact it’s happening.

“This is a tactic that has to stop and will be looking to take it further as it’s slanderous about Berry and also causing the client unnecessary worry thinking their complete comms provider has just gone bust!”
