Vodafone confirms talks with Three UK

Vodafone has confirmed long-rumoured discussions with Three’s parent company CK Hutchison that would see the telcos combine to create the largest mobile operator in the UK.

The deal will accelerate respective 5G rollouts, with Ofcom recently stating that neither organisation had the necessary scale to earn their cost of capital.

“By combining our businesses, Vodafone UK and Three UK will gain the necessary scale to be able to accelerate the rollout of full 5G in the UK, and expand broadband connectivity to rural communities and small businesses,” said the two potential partners.

The deal would see Vodafone own 51% and CK Hutchinson owning 49% of the combined business.
