Connexin to support smart water project in Essex and Suffolk

Connexin has signed a licence deal with Southend-on-Sea City Council to install LoRaWAN gateways on existing city infrastructure, supporting date transfer for up to 700,000 smart water meters being installed across Essex and Suffolk by 2035.

The agreement will help Essex and Suffolk Water’s smart water metering programme to enable smart technologies that will benefit both residents and the environment.

These meters will send data from households across the region to Essex and Suffolk Water, allowing the water company to remotely monitor usage in near-real time, detect leaks early, and respond quickly.

Under the agreement, Connexin will install wireless gateways on existing streetlights where possible, minimising the need for new poles and avoiding unnecessary construction.

Dan Preece, Vice President of Water and Utilities at Connexin (pictured) said: “By using existing infrastructure, we can minimise construction and reduce disruption to the environment, and laying the groundwork for smarter cities, making the region more sustainable and better connected.”

The new LoRaWAN network in Southend-on-Sea will help introduce smart applications that will benefit local communities and the environment, helping air quality monitoring and smart lighting to early flood detection.
