Open network development gets £80m govt boost

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology is inviting applications for up to £80m of funding to support the development of open network solutions.

The Open Networks Ecosystem Competition represents in the next phase of the UK Open Networks Research and Development (R&D) Fund, which looks to encourage network operators to accelerate adoption and deployment.

Grants ranging from £1m to £10m will be made available to successful projects. The competition closes on 23rd May 2023.

Kristian Toivo, Executive Director at TIP, said: “The UK government is heavily invested in supporting a more open, diverse, and crucially, innovative ecosystem of telecoms vendors.”
