Following revenue declines in 2009 and 2010 and at several times the industry growth rate (according to Gartner overall IT spending rose just 2.1% in 2012) this represents an impressive recovery.

Smartphone sales show big upsurge

The number of smartphone shipments reached almost 200 million in Q1 2013, representing a growth of 30% from Q1 2012, according to numbers crunched by Juniper Research.

Samsung increased its smartphone market share by shipping an estimated 68 million smartphones and accounting for approximately 34% of all smartphone shipments in the quarter.

Report forecasts 200–600 billion euro in high-speed broadband benefit for European Union

A new report from the European Commission provides a detailed forecast of the economic benefits from deploying high-speed broadband across the European Union. In total, the 27 countries that make up the EU can expect to receive cumulative benefits of between EUR200 billion and EUR600 billion in the period 2012 to 2020, representing a benefit:cost ratio of between 2.7 and 2.9.

2012 ends flat but Ovum predicts modest SPSR market growth in 2013

Global Service Provider Switching & Routing (SPSR) spending declined in the first half of 2012 before making a recovery to 2.3 per cent growth in 3Q12, according to figures from Ovum.

The market declined again in 4Q12, however, leading to a nearly flat (-0.4 percent) result for the year.
