Virtual1 deploys Acronis software defined storage solution

Virtual1 has deployed Acronis Storage 2.3 into its infrastructure, a software defined storage solution that replaces the previous iSCSI storage and adds S3 capacity for Acronis FilesCloud.

"Acronis's Hybrid model is tailor-made for a wholesale model, allowing us to leverage the power of our own network and infrastructure", says Tom O'Hagan, CEO at Virtual1.

Virtual1 was facing data growth of 100 per cent very six months. Acronis Storage 2.3 allowed Virtual1 to offer a higher level of backup protection for their customers with the backup data in two of their DC's using the ABGW geo-replication feature.

Acronis Storage's ability to provide mixed workloads has enabled Virtual1 to deploy both iSCSI and S3 storage in the same SDS cluster.

This consolidation of storage services gives significant benefits in terms of hardware utilisation and reduced storage management. Since the beginning of the project, two months ago, the capacity requirement has grown around 10%.

"Service Providers need to dynamically address new trends and tendencies of the market to provide and uphold user experiences," said John Zanni, President at Acronis.

"With the ongoing enormous and rapid data growth, many service providers face the same challenge - to be flexible and quick enough to react or better prepare for the customer's needs of today and tomorrow."
