Recruitment is getting back on track with a rising number of vacancies from all corners of the UK, reports Gary Hammond, Director of the telecoms and VoIP recruitment specialist TTR. "Like-minded companies are starting to recruit for the same types of telecom personnel, making for a job seekers' market," he said. "Some applicants are already getting multiple job offers. So if you are thinking of recruiting, now is an excellent time as you might have to wait longer than you think to find and employ the right candidate."
According to Hammond, the channel's perception of the state of the recruitment market is significant. "So many recent recruiting clients have assumed that there must be bucket loads of high calibre candidates because of the recession," he noted. "This is not the case. With advancements in technology and reliability the need for staff has always been closely watched. There was not the cull that so many people believe happened over the last year or so."
When recruiters do find suitable applicants, all too often the job offers are not enough to attract the candidate. "You must make your job offer count," urges Hammond. "Sit down with the candidate and thrash out the offer before sending it in writing or getting the agency to try and sell the offer to the candidate.
"Don't be surprised when you offer a candidate the same money and they reject it. Find out what it will take to get them on board. Get your agency to help you out with this. Perhaps build in quarterly performance reviews, training rewards, job targets, company profit bonuses, holiday vouchers, health plans, insurances etc - there are many ways to attract the right staff."

"The good thing about social media, especially for smaller comms resellers, is that it's free. Particularly in times like this when budgets are tight, social media should definitely be an avenue for resellers to pursue."
